Driver Privacy Policy
This Driver Privacy Policy and Personal Information Collection Statement (“PICS”) explains
how Hail Technologies Limited (“Hail”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, discloses, transfers,
and retains Personal Data of drivers in connection with the Hail driver app and services
in Hong Kong, in accordance with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (Cap. 486) (“PDPO”).
1. Personal Data We Collect
We may collect the following categories of Personal Data about you as a driver:
- Identification details: full name, contact details, HKID verification data.
- Licensing and eligibility data: driving licence information, taxi/hire-car permits, vehicle registration, and insurance details.
- Onboarding documents: copies of licences, permits, identity and address documents, and any declarations or forms you submit.
- Vehicle information: plate number, make and model, colour, and capacity.
- Trip and earnings data: completed trips, fares, incentives, adjustments, and payout history.
- Location data: GPS/location data during active trips and when you are available to receive trip requests.
- Payment and payout data: bank account or wallet details for receiving payouts (stored and processed via secure partners).
- Support and communications: contacts with Hail support, incident reports, and feedback.
2. Purposes of Collection and Use
Your Personal Data is collected and used for the following purposes:
- Assessing your eligibility to drive on the Hail platform and completing onboarding checks.
- Operating the driver platform, including trip dispatching, routing, fare calculations, and ratings.
- Calculating and paying driver earnings, incentives, and any adjustments.
- Ensuring safety and compliance, including handling safety reports and traffic or regulatory enquiries.
- Preventing, detecting, and investigating fraud, misuse, or suspicious activity.
- Providing driver support and handling complaints or disputes.
- Complying with legal, regulatory, accounting, and tax obligations.
3. Disclosure and Transfer of Personal Data
Your Personal Data may be disclosed or transferred to:
- Riders, to the limited extent necessary for trip fulfilment (e.g. first name, vehicle details, and location during the trip).
- Payment and payout service providers, banks, and financial institutions.
- Identity verification, background check, or onboarding partners engaged by Hail.
- Cloud hosting, IT support, and analytics providers operating under contractual safeguards.
- Professional advisers such as auditors or legal counsel where reasonably required.
- Regulators, law enforcement agencies, or courts when required by law or in connection with legal claims.
Where data is transferred outside Hong Kong, we take steps to ensure the recipient provides a level of protection comparable to
that under the PDPO (for example, via contractual protections).
4. Data Retention
We retain driver data for as long as necessary to operate the driver platform, comply with legal and regulatory obligations,
and manage tax, accounting, and dispute-related matters. Records relating to trips and payouts may need to be retained for a
number of years. Aggregated or anonymised data may be retained indefinitely for analytics.
5. Your Rights
Subject to applicable law, you have the right:
- To request access to Personal Data that we hold about you; and
- To request correction of inaccurate Personal Data.
Requests can be sent to privacy@hail.hk. We may require proof of identity and may charge
a reasonable fee for data access requests as allowed under the PDPO.
6. Updates to this Policy
We may update this Driver Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the driver app or our
website. Continued use of the Hail platform after such changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
