Rider Privacy Policy
This Rider Privacy Policy and Personal Information Collection Statement (“PICS”) explains
how Hail Technologies Limited (“Hail”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, discloses, transfers,
and retains your Personal Data in connection with the Hail rider app and services, in
accordance with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (Cap. 486) of Hong Kong (“PDPO”).
1. Personal Data We Collect
We may collect the following categories of Personal Data about you as a rider:
- Account details: name, mobile phone number, email address.
- Verification data: one-time passwords (OTP) and related logs.
- Trip data: pickup and drop-off locations, route, distance, duration, timestamps, fare, and payment status.
- Device and technical data: device type, OS version, app version, language, crash and performance data.
- Location data: GPS or network-based location during an active trip and when you use location-based features.
- Support and communications: messages sent to Hail support and feedback submitted in-app.
- Payment-related data: tokenised card details or wallet identifiers processed via our payment service providers (we do not store full card numbers).
2. Purposes of Collection and Use
We use your Personal Data for the following purposes:
- Creating, managing, and authenticating your rider account.
- Providing ride-hailing services, including matching you with drivers, routing, fare estimation, and in-trip updates.
- Calculating and processing fares, including tunnels, tolls, surcharges, and discounts.
- Enhancing safety, including trip history, route review, and incident investigation.
- Providing customer support and handling queries, complaints, or disputes.
- Improving our app and services through analytics and performance monitoring.
- Preventing fraud, misuse, or suspicious activity.
- Complying with legal, regulatory, accounting, and tax obligations applicable in Hong Kong.
3. Disclosure and Transfer of Personal Data
Your Personal Data may be disclosed or transferred to the following parties, on a need-to-know basis only:
- Drivers who accept your trip, so that they can locate and transport you (e.g. first name, pickup location, destination).
- Payment service providers, banks, and financial institutions for processing payments and refunds.
- Cloud hosting, IT support, analytics, and other service providers engaged by Hail under contractual safeguards.
- Professional advisers (e.g. lawyers, auditors) where reasonably necessary for our business or to protect our rights.
- Regulators, law enforcement agencies, or courts where disclosure is required by law or in connection with legal proceedings.
Where Personal Data is transferred outside Hong Kong, we take reasonable steps to ensure the recipient provides a level of protection
comparable to the PDPO, for example through contractual protections.
4. Data Retention
We retain Personal Data only for as long as is necessary to fulfil the purposes described above or to comply with legal, regulatory,
and accounting requirements. Trip and transaction records may be retained for a longer period where required for tax, reporting,
or dispute-handling purposes. Aggregated or anonymised data that no longer identifies you may be retained for analytics.
5. Your Rights
Subject to applicable laws, you have the right:
- To request access to Personal Data we hold about you; and
- To request correction of inaccurate Personal Data.
Requests should be submitted in writing to our Data Protection contact at
admin@hailhk.com. We may need to verify your identity and are entitled to charge a
reasonable fee for data access requests in accordance with the PDPO.
6. Updates to this Policy
We may update this Rider Privacy Policy from time to time. Any material changes will be notified via the Hail app or our website,
and the updated version will take effect on the date specified in the notice.
